Anyone that knows me well knows the Martin Luther King, Jr. is my favorite Civil Rights icon. Today we celebrate a man who fought for equality of black people.
It’s amazing that although a lot has changed since his death, we still have so much to accomplish! With what we have seen happening in our society as of late, it seems as if we are headed backwards. I still man optimistic though.
One of the things that gets under my skin is seeing people quote Dr. King but they haven’t shown with their actions. Today on Twitter I saw a lot of that. I loved how Dr. King’s daughter wrote a tweet that addresses this.
Please don’t act like everyone loved my father. He was assassinated. A 1967 poll reflected that he was one of the most hated men in America. Most hated. Many who quote him now and evoke him to deter justice today would likely hate, and may already hate, the authentic King. #MLK pic.twitter.com/yGdQXL5MJ3— Be A King (@BerniceKing) January 18, 2021
It is my hope that America will one day be true with what it says on paper. Yes, things have gotten better but it can definitely be much better.
